Greetings, game program students at Westwood College! In my role as advisor on the game programs at Westwood College, I was asked to provide you with advice to help you get started on your game career path. As a regularly published author in the games industry, I felt you would benefit the most from reading a collection of my written work. The inspiration for this series of articles comes from the thousands of e-mails and phone calls I receive asking the same daunting question: "How do I get a job in the game industry?" I founded GameRecruiter.com, the number one recruiting firm in the games industry, after working in game product development for a number of years. After 20 years of developing careers for some of our brightest stars in the games industry, I’ve gathered vast knowledge on proven job-getting techniques. If you take these techniques seriously, and apply them appropriately, you will not only land that game job, but you will also be placed firmly on a career development track that will take you to the height of your aspirations. In this series of articles, you will learn about the various game jobs available in our industry, what the game companies are looking for, and how you can get that job you want. You will obtain tips and guidance required to successfully land the game industry career that you envision. If you need additional advice or direction, you can connect with me through the "Ask The Expert" column on Gamasutra’s sister site, Game Career Guide.com, located here. Throughout your job search, remember that your thoughts about your career and life direction will create your destiny. Good luck!
