Hi all,

All right, I've got the picks in from all the judges. After triple checking the votes, we needed that final judge to be a tie breaker for one of the finalists.

I've decided to post them here because I know everyone is anxious to see the results.

I will still follow-up with the Grand Prize winner and the four finalists. I am on very tight concept art/ sculpting deadline for my L.A. client so this will be done first thing Monday.

Okay the winners for the Battle of the Super Modelers are:
_______________________________________
Grand Prize Winner:

Eric Claeys
________________________________________

Three Finalists:

Brian Parnell

Jake Raymor

James Ho
_________________________________________

Runner Up

Jacob Mandt

_________________________________________

I will be in contact with each of the winners next week to coordinate prizes.

Thank again for to all the contestants. (And, if you're reading, thank you contributing sponsors!) And thank you to all who have participated on the forum. No one knew what to expect with this contest, so thank you just for showing up and making youself known.
Best to you all,
I am only waiting for one judge to turn in their picks. I apologize for the delay. I will email the winners directly first. After that I post the winners here.

Just an FYI for later: the winners will have their prizes mailed directly to them. I will help coordinate the logistics there by confirming correct mailing addresses; that the correct prizes go to the right people; the winners picks of software, etc. No rest for the wicked, eh?

Okay, I've gotten all the finalist's art submissions to the judges. The judges have a soft deadline of September 10 to return with their decision.

I know the winning entries are to be announced during Austin GDC - so I don't think I can "scoop" that official announcement here on the forums prior to AGDC.

Many thanks to all who have entered and another big thanks to those active here on the forums.
Could someone running this comp please respond?

Hello all,

I'm done lurking around here! Despite being very depressed at how good the other submissions are, I finally decided to post my submission.

I had no clue what I was going to do in the beginning, so I just pulled up some of my older drawings and picked out what I thought would look cool for a character. Since I love humanoid characters, I decided to go for a male soldier:

I had a few things I knew I wanted. Huge collars/turtlenecks, a relatively slim frame and a Warmask!

I liked the idea of a Warmask because they are menacing and frightening, but this time the mask is metal and artifical, but still retaining that perpetual snarl. Imagine this guy busting into your room with a sub machine gun!

So I began modelling him by halves, starting with the face:

I was surprised at how easy it was to get the Normal Map working. This is my first time trying normal mapping, and with Maya's Transfer Maps feature, applying the map to the low poly model was ridonkulously easy.

And Finally..... here he is!
Specs:
Modelled in Maya 8
Textured in Bodypaint 3d and Photoshop
2048 Colormap
2048 Normalmap
9,638 Tri-Polys

Let me know what you think.
Frank is a former mechanic that suffered a heavy does of radiation poisoning after a military test reactor melt down in suburban USA. The Government covered it up. Most people died. However, the survivors, badly deformed and hurt retreated into the mountains and rural landscapes to go into hiding.
Now the mutants / survivors are trying to even the score by any means necessary.
